New Venue

I'm very excited to be selling and signing books tomorrow, April 19th at the Sto Lat Bar in Amherst, NY.

This is the third annual Read It & Eat Book Fair, but the first time it has been held at the Sto Lat Bar in the former Eastern Hills Mall.

I'm hearing that buying tickets at the door is the most pocket-friendly since there is a fee if you buy them through the on-line vender. 

The event is hosted by the Read It & Eat Bookshop, tagged as Buffalo's culinary bookstore. They seem to be known for their culinary literature and back that up with cooking classes right in the store! I have yet to experience their shop, but hope to soon. Plus, there's an adjacent coffee shop.

Tomorrow will be the first time I've participated in their book fair which will benefit FeedMore of Western New York. Looking forward to it, and to seeing you there!

 

Some Irony

Love this entrance to one of my favorite book stores – Northshire Bookstore in Saratoga Springs, NY.

Nothing is written in stone, unless, of course, it is! You have to love the irony!

As I put finishing touches on The Eye of the Peacock, I feel like the whole thing will be written in stone. In a few weeks, the ideas and words will be out there, unable to be changed.

And yet, I am reminded of writers, who have done readings of their works, who change the words as they perform. Do they see imperfections in their work that they wish they could now change? Poet Taylor Mali adds the word “criminally” in his 2008 performance rendition of “Undivided Attention.” Was that a mistake? Or does he wish he would have written it that way?

Maybe as writers we can go back after publication and change things. Maybe that’s what second editions are for. Maybe it’s true. Perhaps nothing really is written in stone!

New Fav Book Store

Recently, I stumbled across an independent bookstore that has become one of my favorites.

Northshire Bookstore is located on Broadway in Saratoga Springs, New York, and it is a gem! Books are well displayed, and signage allows newcomers to easily find what they want. There is an amazing metal staircase that leads to the second floor, which is filled front to back with books for children and young adults.

The staff seems to genuinely love books. They have even left short recommendations on cards here and there on the shelves. Combine these with the inside cover of the book and you feel very confident purchasing a book you are going to love!

They have another store in Manchester Center, Vermont -- a bit of a hike for me. But I’ll be back to the Saratoga Springs store as often as I can!
